We are pleased to announce that the Graduate School of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), in partnership with the College of Social Sciences at National Taiwan University, will co-host the International Symposium on Social Change, Wellbeing, and Social Policy Studies in East Asia. The symposium will take place on 23–24 October 2025 at HSUHK.
Over the past two decades, East Asia has experienced significant demographic shifts, marked by rapidly ageing populations and declining numbers of young people. These changes pose unique challenges for East Asian societies, particularly in managing the rise in older populations, while some Southeast Asian societies face distinct policy needs due to population growth.
The theme of this year’s symposium is "The Rise of Ageing Populations: Challenges, Coping Strategies, and Policy Implications," and the symposium will serve as a dynamic platform for scholars and researchers to exchange critical reflections, practical insights, and shared experiences on managing demographic changes in Asia. Special emphasis will be placed on exploring coping strategies and policy implications for addressing intergenerational conflicts, tensions, and communication challenges. Through keynote speeches, panel discussions, and scholarly presentations, the symposium aims to foster collaborative dialogue and innovative approaches to tackling the challenges associated with ageing populations.

We welcome both paper and poster presentations. If you or your postgraduate students are interested in presenting at the symposium, please submit your papers via the online submission platform by 31 August 2025 at 23:59 HKT (GMT+8).
Notifications of acceptance will be sent via email by Mid-September 2025. While in-person presentations are highly encouraged, a limited number of online presentations will also be considered.
